T&G Font Collaboration: Lining Livermore #2
In talking with Gary, we decided to have a go with this typeface. It is from American Specimen Book of Type Styles, by the American Type Founders Company (1912).
A sample of Lining Livermore #2:
Attachment 88833
I need to chop up the page into sections and once done, I will attach various files in this thread. This is going to be a first-class font freely available only here at T&G.
We need to pay attention to the number of nodes and what types they are. Wherever possible, use smooth curves. Draw the glyphs instead of automated tracing. We need a proper number of nodes, not too many as is created by tracing, and not so few the node handles are out in space in order to make the curve fit the shape.
I will be overseeing the project and take it first into TypeTool for any needed clean-up. And with the aid of Gary, we'll get it into Fontlab to generate the eventual font. A truly commercial font (for free to everyone of course) is what we are after--and that is what we will all have with your shared efforts!
Take care, Mike

I will volunteer to help with doing a few.

Re: T&G Font Collaboration: Lining Livermore #2
I would like to volunteer to do some too. Also I have found something that may be of use about nodes which I thought could be helpful, see what you think. I always like a good visual to see what I'm doing when I'm not sure. ;))

Re: T&G Font Collaboration: Lining Livermore #2
Thanks, everyone. The page image is at 600 dpi and so they can be resized well for one's own drawing sensibilities without too much degradation.
I plan on making cohesive ABC abc 123 strings up for parceling out on the forum. I should be ready this weekend--got too much on the plate right now.
Take care, Mike
Re: T&G Font Collaboration: Lining Livermore #2
I will be glad to help when you are ready Mike.
Re: T&G Font Collaboration: Lining Livermore #2
Got it chopped up finally and need to reassemble the pieces into character order (for my own sanity).
I'll get them uploaded sometime this week. Real-life work has been a blessing and curse at the moment.
Thank you all for the volunteering--it's needed and appreciated.
Take care, Mike
