Re: How to draw half circle?
Not clear what you want to accomplish based on your discription above.
You used the word break if you are taking about breaking nodes then the following will happen:
If you make a circle and convert it to editable shapes, when you select two nodes and do a break at the node points you will get a line in the shape of an Arc.
If this not what you want and you want half a circle then do the following:
Make a circle and draw a line across the circle with the ends extending past the circle, then you select both objects and go to the arrange > Combine> Slice, the end results will be that you will get 2 half a circle shapes.

I think that you mean ARRANGE > COMBINE > SLICE SHAPES

Re: How to draw half circle?
Convert the circle to editable shapes.
With the circle selected, switch to the Shape Tool.
Select and delete the bottom control point.
Marquee select the bottom two control points and click Make Line or press L
Re: How to draw half circle?
TIP - I have found it easier to use "BOUNDS CREATION" and use CTRL to constrain the ellipse to a circle, the quadrant points then stay at 0, 90, 180 and 270 degree locations.

Keith,
You are correct. I will edit my post to reflect the correct step.
Thanks

Re: How to draw half circle?
there must be a zillion ways to do this
draw a circle 200 width
draw a rectangle 300 width 100 height
align centre and bottom edges
select both
subtract shapes
perfect half circle
