Re: Linux or Windows Server?
So, are you going to use ASP.NET or Microsoft SQL in your sites?
Re: Linux or Windows Server?
Well i've heard of SQL but i've never used it or have know idea if i'll ever have/need to use it.
My website is all built with XWD with some html codes.
Re: Linux or Windows Server?
Hi Dean,
Linux server will be a good option. Many web hosts run either Linux (a Unix like OS) or Unix.
Linux hosts can offer alternatives to Active Server Pages (ASP) for server side scripting, and Microsoft SQL database service.
Your Web Designer pages will run equally well on either Linux or Microsoft.

Then there's no obvious reason to go for Microsoft. So I suggest Linux. :)
Re: Linux or Windows Server?
well, as one of the admins bored ( <- changed word, as the original word was obvious on the blacklist of this forum ;) ) by all the rooted linux boxes out there trying to attack my ssh accounts, i'd say, if you don't know anything about linux and are not willing to change this, you'd might also go for windows.
in general linux is the better alternative, sql is possible through other databases (i prefer postgreSQL) and asp is afaik also possible under linux, but not 100% sure here, but you have to learn at least the basics (as in make it secure and do regular software updates)
Re: Linux or Windows Server?
I went with Linux about 5 years ago on my server, not knowing anything about it at the time but it was recommended over Windows. Has worked fine, no problems and I wouldn't change. Don't know much more now than I did then, but it's Linux for me!
