New Xara site won't override the old site
Hi all,
I've created a Xara site from a template (but changed it quite a bit), it's a one pager.
I've tried to publish it to Netregistry using all the ftp hosting details.
Everything goes fine but when I open the site itself, the old site is still there.
I spent 2 hours on the phone to Netregistry and they have no idea why the new site doesn't override the old site. Has anyone else had a similar problem and sorted the solution by any chance?
Thanks,
JB

Re: New Xara site won't override the old site
Hi JB
There are a few things that can cause this. The most common is the page is cached (stored) on your computer. Press Ctrl + F5 and see if this shows the changes.
If not, do your old files have a .html extension? Xara by default appends a .htm extension. Browsers will load a file with .html if there are two files but one is .htm and the other .html
And finally does your web host want you to publish your files to a specific folder such as public_html? If so , see attached for when to add this sub-folder

Thanks, already know that useful little trick, but it wasn't that.

I'm with Gary on this one. You're publishing to the wrong place (folder).
Can you log in using FileZilla (or any FTP software) and see which folder you site is residing in? If so, you need to add that folder to the 'Sub_Folder (Optional)' section of Xara.
Web Properties > Publish > Other Web Hosting (Via FTP) > Settings

Re: New Xara site won't override the old site
Thanks Gw, Chris et all.
I tried all those suggestions and still no joy.
Although I'm not sure I'm following what you mean by:
'If not, do your old files have a .html extension? Xara by default appends a .htm extension. Browsers will load a file with .html if there are two files but one is .htm and the other .html'
I did add the public_html as the subfolder too but still not working.
Could you please further explain the html and htm thingy?
As you can now probably see, I'm self taught with all this stuff and can create the site but don't really have the chops to do the technical stuff.
I haven't ever used FileZiller before and (see by the screen shot) I'm no wiser as to which folder it's supposed be residing in.
Learning slowly...
Sheldon.

Okay so I'm replying to my own message...
but now that I've watched a number of videos on how to actually use FileZiller, I've done what I need to do and still can't get this site to override the old site.
Losing hope...
Sheldon.

Don't lose hope, you're 98% there!
Looking at your screenshot, you aren't quite in the right place. Look at the top right window. The folder that is highlighted is named '\' (root). A little further down and you see 'public_html'...click that.
Now look at the bottom right window. Do you see your site? It should have a folder named index_htm_files and a file named index.htm amongst others (see a screenshot of one of my sites below).
Let us know if you do.
