Help to recreate this effect
Several years ago I saw an image posted somewhere on the web by Rogue.
It was some sort of metallic symbol that had been painted red with some of the paint worn away by the elements leaving some of the bare metal showing. The whole thing was still mostly red but the red had a sun bleached look to it as well as being worn away (mostly on the edges leaving lighter metal and a darker gray showing. Anyway I never forgot that image and have been trying to reproduce that effect with xtreme. To help clarify I am attaching a small detail of the image. Sorry I don’t know the website it came from. If anyone in interested in this I would appreciate any tips to accomplish this in Xtreme, if possible. So with that said I think it might be a good challenge although I cannot seem to create the effect myself, what can you do with it.

Re: Help to recreate this effect
Hi Larry
I don't know how the image you posted was made but you can create grungy effects by building up the look of decay using multiple bitmaps with Xara's transparency effects as per the attached image I just made. I've also attached the .xar file if anyone wants to dissect it. :D
I'm sure there are far simplier ways to get an effective grunge effect without resorting to the transparent overlay technique I used. Hopefully others will post their ideas.
Regards, Ross

Re: Help to recreate this effect
I did this in 2002 and I thought it was for a tutorial but I cannot find it. Perhaps it was a Workbook.

Re: Help to recreate this effect
Drawing a similar shape (whatever it is?) shown in your small image I played with fractal plasma, transparencies, feathering, creating bitmap copies of parts for applying unsharp mask and drop shadows that were separated by converting to editable shapes and ungrouping.
Finally I created a quick greyish backdrop and used it to clip the shape.

Re: Help to recreate this effect
I created this using Eye Candy 4000 chrome filter and a red fractal clouds transparency layer. I played around with the profile sliders on the transparency layer. The back ground is a bitmap fill with a white flat transparency layer over it. A wall shadow completes the effect.

Re: Help to recreate this effect
Here's my attempt. This thread is definitely a challenge thread contender.
