Can anyone recommend a method for paid membership access to a folder? A username and password would access the folder (site), but only after payment. The other part if possible would be subscription period, the need to renew after a given time or lose access. Thanks.

With Xara, the first page has to be named index.htm, so we create that page with a simple sales message, then all the other pages are php pages, starting with index.php.
The trick is that when you name the Xara pages, include .php with the name: index.php, about.php, products.php, etc.
Doesn't your hosting provider let you have password protected folders through a Cpanel or similar?
It's quite easy to set up and you can have numerous users. You'd need to delete them manually on expiry of their subscription period via the Cpanel though.
I give a link below. You can use either username of "megg81" and password "megg81" or username of "tg2015" and password "tg2015". Of course these wouldn't normally be the same. ;)
