It is often beneficial to also have a reference point other than the center or one of the corners when *scaling*, not only when rotating.
So, the application should simply use the center of rotation as well when scaling without modifiers.
Forgive me if this is already possible somehow.

Re: Center of rotation also "Center of scaling"
+1 for this feature.
I would also like to add it would be nice to lock both the center of rotation and Center of scaling with a hotkey that would be needed to be pressed to move either one of them.
I woudl also like to suggest that we have different icons/symbols for the center of rotation and the center of scaling.

I agree.....
I actually logged into this forum to make that request almost verbatim.

Re: Center of rotation also "Center of scaling"
Do you mean how you can scale an object by holding down a Shift key and dragging on one of the corner sizing handles?

Please explain in more detail what type of scaling you are asking about. :)

Re: Center of rotation also "Center of scaling"
:) I'm asking for functionality to specify an arbitrary point inside the boundbox of an object (akin to the current "Center of rotation"), whose position will stay fixed relative to the page during a scale operation.
The current scale tool supports 5 such points: The four corners, and (SHIFT) the centre of the boundbox.
I'm asking for a feature to specify an *arbitrary* point instead.
Say, you have made an 'A' whose horizontal bar 'lies' on a ball or something. Now, you KNOW that you want the bar to stay right on the tip of the ball, just the 'A' is the wrong size.
Right now, you'd have to do a dozen scale-and-move cycles in order to find the right size AND maintain the position on top of the ball.
With the feature, you'd just set the 'center of scaling' to the point where the top of the ball and the horizontal bar of the 'A' touch, and then just scale to the right size and be done with it...

Thanks Alexander that does sound like a great feature to have.

You can do this in a certain way, if you set the rotation center where you want and use the little arrows next to the scale numeric input, the transformation will keep the designed center for scaling.
You can also enter a numeric input and it will work.
But yes I agree, it would be great if it worked with the corner handles (blobs)
In this example there is two blends on top of each other:
