Cut-out effect with text on a curve
I use the subtract shapes with text and shapes quite a bit to get the cut-out effect so the background shows through the text. How do I get it to work with text on a curve? I've tried tried several things but haven't been successful.

I would have liked to use the same effect on the second graphic with text on curve as the first with just regular text. Thanks.

Re: Cut-out effect with text on a curve
Nancy, surely just selecting the curved Text and the image and Combine Shapes > Slice?
This punches through the image and you see the page background.
If it's the image you want then it is as you did before.
Ensure you have fitted Text to curve (select Text & Curve then right-click).
Then make the text a transparent fill.
Add a White Line to the Text and ensure the grouped line has no Line width.
As the image was very colourful, just White does not stand out so I Clone the curved text, gave it a Black wider Line width and placed behind.

Re: Cut-out effect with text on a curve
Sorry, I confused things with the pics. I want to do this part with the text and white semi-transparent background in a semi-circle Attachment 130801.

Re: Cut-out effect with text on a curve
A little bit more twisty.
Create a curve.
Make it 96px wide.
Add a Flat transparency.
Clone the curve.
Create some Black text, say 64px.
Fit Text to curve, Centred.
Remove the Line Widths (set to None).
Add in some negative Baseline Shift.
Pick the other Curve and Convert Line to Shape.
Select Text and curved Shape and Combine Shapes > Slice.
Remove the inner text shapes.
What you are left with is no longer editable so keep text and curve Cloned and safe off the page.

Re: Cut-out effect with text on a curve
my, years since I did that
the inner text removed at the end will be one shape I think
and the resulting shape may need recolouring
good advice about saving the cloned text and curve

It is and why I left it in.
The cut-out shouldn't need any recolour.

as long as you remember to make it white in the first place; will need to remove the transparency though...
Re: Cut-out effect with text on a curve
Thank you Acorn. Works good. I can't change the size of the feathered region of the curve also as well as transparency, (or without transparency). Then it doesn't splice right. Suggestions? If I change feather region after splice, it feathers/distorts the text inside also.

Re: Cut-out effect with text on a curve
Nancy, provide a mock-up of the effect you want.
What I might do to achieve feathering is to apply a slight Inner Contour to the text and then Inset that.
This creates skinnier lettering. Cut that out and then apply feathering and transparency to the remaining cut-out shape so the missing text show as feathered.
