Preventing .Png export fromhaving white around the edges?
I'm sure this has probably been covered before, but I did a search and couldn't find a topic on it. I have created a logo for a client and when I export it as a .png with a transparent background, the edges of the image have a white jagged outline! it's driving me crazy. I preview it and it looks fine against the checkered background, yet when I go to upload it and place it in his website, it looks like @#$%! I seem to remember that there is some trick to keep this from happening. I'm using Xara DP7 (yeah I know I need to upgrade, and I will when v11 comes out) Can anyone help me out with this? is there some setting in the export of it I am missing or not doing that I should be? TIA
Example of logo can be seen here: http://corozalbelizeproperty.com/

No logo there, Colleen.
Make sure you save the PNG as true color + alpha.
If you are already doing this, post the logo file here for us to see what you are seeing.
Re: Preventing .Png export fromhaving white around the edges?
there is jag on the right hand side of the blue header text - you have to zoom right in to see it clearly - not sure about a solution myself it being a website and all
Re: Preventing .Png export fromhaving white around the edges?
just to add to what steve said - making sure the logo is a whole number of pixels, and that it is on whole pixel co-ordinates before you export it might help...

I'm not sure why the actual logo isn't showing up for all of you. I know about the text problem (that's next for me to fix - the client added the text and it needs to be fixed) However, here is the .png file in question:

but it doesn't show up here because the background is white. It's only obvious when the background is another color. <sigh> Thanks for any help - and for letting me know it's not showing up on the live website - I'll try to fix that now.
Re: Preventing .Png export fromhaving white around the edges?
Well, It seems I got it to work correctly - although I'm honestly not exactly sure how - except that I re-exported it and when I did I made darn sure that I had chosen the True Color - Alpha setting and also placed a rectangle behind it that is the same color as the client's background. I didn't include the colored background as part of the image, but just made sure it was resting on top when I exported it. That might be the "trick" that I remembered from having this issue previously. Please check it out now.

Re: Preventing .Png export fromhaving white around the edges?
Seems to work nicely now Coleen.
Re: Preventing .Png export fromhaving white around the edges?
yep logo looks ok now :) -I would have thought placing the same colour rectangle behind should only be necessary if you export at a reduced clour depth [256 colours or less], but I guess it depends what the actual problem was
Re: Preventing .Png export fromhaving white around the edges?
Thanks. Yeah, I am honestly just not sure why it didn't work before, but it sure looked awful :-O
Now I'm off to fix his text... Thanks for the help :)
Re: Preventing .Png export fromhaving white around the edges?
Might have been that the exported PNG was not in even pixel amounts, e.g. 525.7px vs 525px. This can cause a faint outline. Also making sure the image you are exporting is positioned on the page in even pixel amounts.
