Struggled through a tutorial
I've made my way through Neal Hirsig's tutorial, modeling the first steam locomotive - the Rocket. It took quite a while -the tutorial is a 300-page pdf- but this is the result. I dare say that I know the basics of modeling now, or at least this way of modeling ;)

Blender - sorry Steve, should have mentioned it.

Re: Struggled through a tutorial
Wow! great work guy! I'm still working on simple models I can't wait to see it rendered with materials and textures.
Re: Struggled through a tutorial
Hello Guy,
Very special job! It looks great!
You hadn't posted much recently and now we see why... you were woodshedding! ;)
Does Neal's tutorial go through the means of texturizing it?
Just like building an immaculate airplane model, I know this took much patience and attention to detail to get right.
Wow

No, this one was modeling only. The follow-on was animation of the train which I did also.
Materials and textures are the next tutorials, which I just began to work on.
@James re: Animation. I've rendered the animation into an avi-format. The tutorial suggested quick-time, but apparently that's no longer an option. How do you go about converting the avi-format in e.g. an animated gif which can be posted in the forum ?
Re: Struggled through a tutorial
You need to add some fins and motors, otherwise it'll never get into space. Great job.
Re: Struggled through a tutorial
And some fire and smoke as well. Nice job.

I'm not sure it will play, but this is the animated version
edit: it doesn't ??? I have it on my pc as an animated gif, uploaded that to the forum and then inserted it online, but it turns out to be a jpg not a gif.
