Making my own Variant. Points to Ponder
I'm one of those who likes to design without the use of a template; and I'm working on a iphone variant. The site looks good on any tablet but what a learning experience.
- I will no doubt have to have a drop down menu - for sure.
- My fonts have to be huge! 18 points in arial still looks small. Do I go to a 20 point font?
- images I find have to be at least to the edge of the page
- stretch works well for headers - I will not have a lot of moving parts on this one.
- wondering if a supersite might serve this variant better.
Any more ideas for constructing from scratch. I upload then look at my phone - back and forth and so forth!
Re: Making my own Variant. Points to Ponder
Make your smallest variant at 700 px. This will eliminate the scrolling horizontally placed new iphones x's. Keep your fonts 20px plus. I use 24px. that way I keep it for all variants. I always leave a few pixels for margins for both desktop and mobile. Check my concern with mobile pages not fitting on new iphones in the Dear Xara section.

Hi Bill,

First question would be what iPhone model?
What about Android users?
Xara doesn't create responsive websites.

Thanks Egg and behzad. I guess I've got more to think about. Looks like a 750 by 1334 would be a nice average. It's not going to be perfect for all phones. Just presentable. My latest stats indicated that 70% are now viewing on tablets and phones. Seniors on tablets, the remainder on young people.
I've got my font points right at 24. Working on a nice drop down navigation presently. The super smooth sites I admire greatly. They just work so well. Not sure if I can get there not knowing CSS but Xara helps.
