Lot's of sites I use when designing in Xara X

Getty Images - This is my number one site for finding royalty free and pay stock images and sometimes I go here just for a bit of inspiration for a project.

Corbis - If it's not on Getty I usually look here - there is a bit of over lap with Getty but some other collection are here.

Google Images - This is always a great place just for pure inspiration when starting something. The images you get are so random it usually gets my mind working off on a greate imaginative tangent.

Da Font - This I guess it is my favourite place of for freeware fonts because the guy has taste and weeds out rubbish most of the time. Don't be fut off that the guy is French as there is an English version here as well. Also a great tip is to actually investigate the author's of the font's sites because sometimes they don't submit everything to here.

Jeff McGills Font Link - This man is a legend in his own right - if you want to know anything about type there's be a whole host of links for a very specific tpy erelated topic.

Brands Of The World - A great place to find well known brand logos in EPS format if you ever need to incorporate it into a design - saves redrawing time or putting up with crappy raster, as opposed to vector, images.

Colour Schemer - Great for making colour schemes work when you've found a good starting point. It's free and it works online. Just put in your Hex value and hey presto!

Post yours below and see if we can surprise each other with some hidden gems!

    James,

Brands of the World. I am not sure how to look at the brands they have. Isn't there a view that of thumbnails you can scroll through?

    John,

You're right it's not the best imterface in the work but if you use the search box to search on the Brand Logo you're after a few usually come up. The search box it at the bottom of the page - alternatively you can browse by letter. The site is a little slow because I think it's hosted in Russia.

    Lemog 3D

Has the best tiling textures I've come across.

I often find that looking for a texture for one thing sparks a whole new idea.

MicroSoft make a handy little program called PhotoStory For Windows 3 and they give it away for free. You can make nice moviesfrom your xara images and even add in royalty-free soundtracks and/or naration tracks. It is sort of like a self-running powerpoint presentation but because you can zoom in/out & pan it gets very pleasing motion effects out of still images. It is a great tool for doing a portfolio movie.

    Get it here!

    Regards, Ross
