Default 3d software box (kind of like an ebook)

    Hello there,

I recently purchased Xara Xtreme 5 and "The Xara Xtreme 5 Official Guide" book so I am a complete Xara newb so please excuse this elementary question.

I would really like to create a 3d "software box" in Xara Extreme for a project I am working on. I have been looking for tutorials in the official book, on this site, and Xara Xone and so far I haven't found anything.

Example of what I would like to do:

    http://www.psdgraphics.com/wp-conten...ftware-box.jpg

--- can this be done in Xara Extreme or do I need Xara 3D?

Does anyone have a link to that type of tutorial that they would share with me? I tried making it in Xara, but I do not have a very good handle on the program to create something like that without instructions.

I greatly appreciate any tutorials you could point me to or other assistance you would be able to provide.

    Thank you much,
    Jane

(Please note: I am not asking that anyone make this for me ... I want to learn how to make it myself, I could use a little guidance on where to start Thanks!!!

    Hello Jane,

    Welcome to Talkgraphics.

The best source for Xara Xtreme tutorials is the Xara Xone.

    Hi Jane,

I'm no expert but I think you could do that box in Xtreme 5 pretty easily. There are others on this site would probably be able to get this done in 15 minutes to 1 hour max.....I don't think you have to have 3d6 in order to complete a project like this.

Unfortunately, I'm at work or I would attempt this.....sigh, just not enough time...

Anyway, I'm sure others will chime in with hints on how to start.....

Have you looked at the video tutorials, or the tutorials on Xara.com?

    These are absolutely invaluable.....

Rats, Bill beat me to it......

    Hope that helps a little.

Hi Jane, Welcome to Talkgraphics. You can do this fairly easy in Xtreme using the 3D extrusion tool to make a basic box shape then create your panels for the the front and side and use the mold tool to mold them to the box. Like Karateed I'm supposed to be working, but as soon as I'm done I'll put together a simple tutorial that should help you get started. In the mean time like the others have mentioned the Xara Xone is a great place to start.

    Hi Jane1212.

I am not an Xpert by any stretch of the imagination, compared to most on this forum.

But I have learned a lot from many here and I have also learned a lot by taking apart other people's .xar files.

I wish I had the time to put together a detailed tutorial like many of the people do on this web site, but I have put something together for you to look at.

Once you get the hang of some of the tools, you will see that it takes a lot longer to write instructions than to actually do.

Anyway, this is probably not how the Xperts do it but this is my sort of skill and hopefully you can get started also. Apologies that I have not shown pictures of the icons, in my file, that I clicked on but I am hoping you know those.

Let me know if this helped or confused the issue even more?

    WOW! Javier.

Praise indeed from an Xpert like you.

I wish I wasn't so busy with other things. I would have tried to put some more, detailed, instructions together.
(I always monitor the forum during breaks though!)
    • I just hope that Jane gets going with her box.

Also, I'm sure that some of the real Xperts are going to put together some real instructions!

That is very well done Rik! Mine pales in comparison but I'll post it anyway because I used a different method. I have only put together a very basic box just to show the steps. I have also given a method to wrap an image around the box, again just a basic image to show the method. I've attched my .xar file so you'll have the steps and the artwork to pull apart. I hope you'll post your finished work, if you can, so we can see how you did.
