Hi yumisaiki,
Welcome to the forum. Xara has a 3D tool but it does not work like the way it does in Illy and therefore this would not be the tool to use to draw a spring the way I would do it is explained in this tutorial by Gary at the Xone: http://www.xaraxone.com/webxealot/wo...workbook_5.htm

If you look in this area you will find solutions to areas that you may get stuck at in some of your drawings. If you cant find the solution at the Xone then this is the topic board to get your answers from. By the way Gary's solution to 9 stages to complete instead of the 27 in the Illy tutorial.

Gary's workbook produces a brush that produces the left hand graphic, but there's a difference between that and the middle graphic which the original post asked for.
I followed Gary's tutorial to produce the single coil and then duplicated the shape, added transparency and generally fiddled around for an hour (not recommended).
As you say, Peter, the way Xara's 3D Tool works is different to Illustrator's and therefore the result isn't the same as shown by the right hand graphic.
Saludos,
Bob.

Bob you use the tutorial for a basis on how to do the tutorial not to copy it. I am sailing today but I will have a shot this evening and come back and post if I get the time.
Cheers
Peter

I came up with a method of using Xtreme's new multi stage transparencies to create this image. I also used named colors.

All of the last designs that you ask to draw in Xara can be done using plugins via "Live Effects Tool".
