Default Please see what I am doing wrong.. Need help!

Ok, so I have gone in and designed several logos now. The first was 3 puzzle pieces, then a globe with puzzle pieces.. Now they want the original 3 pieces with a 3D look. I pulled out my work from AI and made them look contour - then imported the file into Xtreme and cannot get it to look 3D. The rounded corners are also looking jagged.

I have attached my Xara 3D6 file and my Xtreme file to this.. PLEASE send me a link to get this to look like 3D contoured puzzle pieces that fit properly together.

Have you tried messing around with the bevel tool on those 3 shapes?

Here's how I did the image with XaraPRO.

As I said before, a (full-valued) 3D package is the solution for your needs.

done in Xara 3D - I am going to redraw once again to vector via Xtreme - the only issue I am having is that it is not contouring the way I want..

I use Bryce 6 - Lightwave 8 and also Hexagon 2.1. Look at my site for some of my 3D work Remi. I know that I can import, but I want this to be 100% vectored.

But you could use a 3D editor to export a "preview" bitmap of your puzzle pieces. After this, you could import this bitmap into Xara Xtreme and draw over the bitmap to create a vector drawing. The 3D editor acts only as a helpful tool to show you the necessary perspective. Creating a vector drawing from a given bitmap is easy with Xara Xtreme's Pen Tool or Shape Editor.

I don't know Xara 3D in depth, so I don't know if it's possible to "bend" the puzzle pieces within Xara 3D as it's possible with a 3D editor (your last example doesn't show a bend/curvature). And the next problem is, that Xara 3D don't export vector graphics, only bitmaps or Flash files.

I am going to try that and see what I can do.. I really didn't think about it. I REALLY wish that Xara 3D had a vector export option. That would kick MAJOR butt.. It is probably too complicated..

Here is my attempt using blends and bevels in Xtreme.

    X-Newbie,
In your last thread: http://www.talkgraphics.com/forumdis...e=2&order=desc you got loads of solutions and instructions on how to do it! Have a try with the solution I suggested it is fairly straight forward.

I had a play (see attached), using thick outlines subtracted from the puzzle shapes, then using the bevel in X3D to fill the gaps back in again. Bit fiddly, especially getting the three colours separated out. I've added an alternative way of colouring using a single image and overlaid Hue Transparency blocks.

(Incidentally, the xar file also shows a bug in Xtreme Pro when converting lines to shapes, that wasn't there in Xtreme 2.0f.)
