I have one desktop running Vista, one desktop running XP, one desktop running Debian Linux, one laptop running 2000, and one laptop running XP. All those are my home systems.

At work I have several thousand computers running 2000, XP, and 2003.

As you can see Vista isn't anywhere near the majority.

Once it appears Vista is stable and the vendor community has caught up with providing the necessary drivers I'll take a look at Vista. Thats probably a year away (at least). I have 4 systems here and they are all happily running XP

Actually I might be more inclined to move to Linux instead of Vista

3 desktops at home, all running XP Home.
1 laptop at home, running 2000.
1 work laptop running XP Professional.

All machines are stable and there's little benefit for us to upgrade to Vista - so it will be some time before we take the plunge.

I think XP is more stable for a while, depending on the number of non-updated drivers you still have. That is also the reason why I haven't moved for XP 64 bits (it would be nice, to handle more than 4 Gb's of memory).

Wink Re: Are you already using Windows Vista?

I am an I.T. Manager and run a 2003 Server and about 45 machines, 4 of which are already on Vista. I have Vista myself and went on a 4 day training course for it. I like the interface and although normally wait until the first service pack, haven't found any major bugs with it.

I do run Xara Xtreme Pro on Vista, although (not recommended for most!!) I have disabled the UAC as it interfered so much with my work. However, for regular users I'd recommend you leave this on and you will find it will calm down as various patches and service fixes are released..

There, I have waffled enough - back to work!!!

I am also leaning that way.
As things stand it would be cheaper, and I already run ubuntu on a second machine.
Have to ask myself what does vista have that I need that XP/linux doesn't have
- well at the moment nothing.
What does it have that I don't need - well teething problems, driver problems, bug problems, major hardware and software upgrade requirements, I think I'll stop there.
My system ain't broke
No fix required

Hi Steve,

I agree with all you said.

My Vista machine is booted up maybe once a week or less. About the only time I use it is when someone has a question about problems running a program on Vista. I'll boot it up and see if I can duplicate the problem and find a fix or workaround if I can.

99.999% of the time I'm using an XP machine both at home and at work.

No and don't plan to.
Got rid of all win OS'es and went completely to Ubuntu/Kbuntu.
Even have Xara Extreme for Debian !!

Re: Are you already using Windows Vista?

I've uninstalled my windows vista, because I'm quite unhappy with its giving me troubles with my printers and scanners, and with its giving new problems any time it actualizes itself. I'm working with XP again
