Seeking a quick way to make spokes for wheels - wire spokes, that is, you know, the proper ones, I had a play.
Quick shapes had to be the answer, and I think I have near enough cracked it. Needs more playtime though ... Analysis of the attached Xar file should explain things. Intbel, nicely done! I took it apart (didn't have to enable layers). I particularly liked how the rubber tire itself is a blend. Very clever!

Here's another way to get near enough the same effect on the tyre.

Actually, a circular fill on just a black circle was my first thought... no need for two circles and grouping and transparency. Then you just use the second (third) circle to cut out the middle.
All in all, 3 ways in Xara to produce pretty much the same result. Isn't Xara great?! |

At first I thought it was a skyscraper. Has the makings of a pretty good one with that same idea, getting rid of the name/letters [I'm afraid of heights... lately] and makings window shapes instead. |

Another spoke solution. Text on a curve, backslash and forward slash. |

Finally ...
A little more work, but still fairly quick. Each spoke is a single black line grouped with a white line 50% pt size on top. Used a 12 pointed star as a guide then copied and pasted each spoke. |
