Default August tutorial finished with Xara LX

After a couple of crashes and some workarounds, I finally finished Gary's August tutorial. Here's my final version.

BTW, is it just me, or is the mouse handling less exact in LX than Xtreme on Windows? I had some issues when I wanted to drag the mouse (for example when I selected things, and when I wanted to draw rectangles and circles).

Very nicely done, Paul. How did you work around the not having a Splodge brush stroke in LX? The developers are still working on brushes.

I've noticed the mouse handling in all Linux GUIs are less exact. Hopefully one day that will be worked out by the Linux distributors.

The sponge workaround was simply to scatter some circles along the line, and then resizing them randomly. Thank goodness it was a short "sponge" line.

And one of the other workarounds was the reflection bitmap copy. I had to export the reflection and then import it, instead of using the bitmap copy function.

That's odd. I'm not experiencing any imprecision with the mouse (Slackware Current / KDE 3.5.3), nor have I ever noticed any difference in the mouse handling between GNU/Linux and Windows - at least so far as precision goes.

Dragging in XaraLX stops promptly when LMB is released every time. Could it be a mouse-acceleration issue? What desktop environs are you folks using?

Edit: I just tried the example from the bugreport (drag the grouped bluecar), and although there's a little lag, it still seems to drop it where I place it. Strange.

Oh yeah... on topic - That beer glass is boss. Great work!

Paul - thanks for the workaround. I was going to cheat and open a windows .xar file with the brush stroke in it, then copy and paste

Alex - I've seen the bug on a few of the revisions last week. Haven't really noticed it as bad in the last build that runs on my system. Rev 1623 that is.

Spectre - I'm running Debian GNU/Linux 3.1r2 and primarily use Gnome 2.8.1, but also use KDE 3.3
I've noticed mouse lag in all Linux GUIs over the past 10 years. Something I've grown accustomed to. KDE is more responsive than Gnome from my experience.

I don't have the LX version but could you create a custom brush using 1 circle or several different size circles? Or a brush strokes just not supported yet?

    Good work, Paul.

    Hi Gary,

The LX doesn't have brush strokes available in the current revisions. The developers are probably working on them as we speak and I may have inadvertantly told a lie. They have new revisions available several times each day. I'm not sure what the status of brushes are on their to do list.

Actually brush strokes are available (in that they render, you can copy and paste them with paste attributes etc.). Just the UI isn't available to create or edit them. Yet. I doubt they will be there for the "recommended" 0.7 but I'm hoping it's not too long before they are around as it's pretty much the last "tool" thing we have to do apart from live effects.
