    Default laptop battery question

I was running my laptop on the battery and managed to run it right down and the laptop powered down. Now the battery will not charge have I killed the battery or is there a setting I need to reset?

Frances there is no setting I know of the reset.

How old is the laptop? Have you verified the charger is working?

One thing you can try is remove the battery, wait 10 to 20 seconds then put it back into the laptop. See if it will charge.

While you have the battery out see if it is Nickel Metal Hydride (NiMH), Nickel Cadmium (NiCd), or Lithium Ion (Li-ion).

The laptop is 2 or 3 years old, I remember that we bought it shortly before the release of Windows 7 I am not sure how to check and see if the charger is working, I currently have it plugged in and the icon on the task bar shows: 0% available (plugged, in not charging)

I'll try taking the battery out and putting it back in and let you know how it goes.

This happens when the Windows power management settings become corrupted. You will need to uninstall and reinstall the power management software by using the Device Manager.

taking out and putting thebattery back in also seems to fixed a couple more issues I have noticed with the laptop, issues that even just shutting it right off for a while didn't fix. I'm a happy camper tonight!

Ok I am finding that I have to keep taking the battery out and putting it back in to get the battery to charge, but it is charging. So it's getting late here but tomorrow I'm going to try following Steve's suggestion but I'm not sure exactly how to do it. I know how to find the Device Manager but I'm not sure what I need to uninstall and once I uninstall it where do I re install it from? Will I have to download a new driver of some sort? If some one could give me some easy to follow instructions the help would be much appreciated

I think "If it ain't broken, why fix it?".

If it happens again, well time to do something.
