ADSL and WiFi

I am pretty sure I will go for ADSL in a few months but would like to go for WiFi sooner.

Will a combined ADSL modem/WiFi transmitter/router be happy without an ADSL connection? It seems silly to buy a non-ADSL box only to have to add a special one in six months.

What type of internet connection do you have now?
The WiFI router should work without the WAN (ADSL) connection for an internal network.

Just a 56k dialup. I realise that I will need to get modem sharing set up across the network so I can use it from my laptop in the garden (after our winter!).

All of the routers I have setup allow for staic IP addressing so internet sharing should not be a problem. Just check out the manuals of the models you are looking at. After you get ADSL you can reset it to default settings and off you go.

Here in Scotland broadband is very limited but I do use ISDN and have two very cheap UBB Adapters running between laptop and Desktop and it works a treat when using both channels. Found setting up IP addresses a bit fiddly but after about three hours evrything works fine. However your speed is faster and I dont not know if this would cause problems I would not think so.
