I wasn't really going to post this here as I didn't see the purpose being consistent with Xara's capabilities. However, Ross encouraged me to do so, so here goes.

Attached is my daughter's first-grade school photo. You'll notice the yellow tint to it. Anyone care to try and correct the color balance in this with XaraX (maybe using colored transparent objects?)?

Thanks.

Joroho - attached is what I did with it. Are you interested in a betrothal to my seven year old son. I'm all for arranged marriages

The picture is yellow, to neutralize yellow use its complementary color, which is blue.

(1) Create a square shape ontop of the pictures and give it a blue fill.
(2) Give the shape the transparency type "Hue" at "0%".
(3) With the blue shape selected open the Color editor and set it for HSV color model.

-> move the cross-hair around to adjust the saturation of the yellow.

-> try different blues as a starting color.

Hi Joroho,

Attached is my attempt to reduce the yellow. I used the pen tool to make a mask of her face, arms and hands. Filled with red and no outline. Gave it a stained glass transparency. Feathered the mask to soften the edges and made a cutout for the eyes so they wouldn't have the red colour.

This is just done in my taste I wouldn't say it's the best what can be done. I've used 3 layers of the same picture set to various shades of gray each of them using different transparency: saturation, stained glass, brightness. On the bottom I used black-filled rectangle and set the original pic to 3,5% mix transparency to make it a slightly darker.

this enhancing is a very playful proces, I love it.

For the one I posted above - the bitmap effect's 'brightness and contrast' were used. I adjusted the 'colour' slider. The result took away the excessive yellow but washed out to much red from the lips and altered the background more than was acceptable to me. To make up for these shortcomings I sniped out the lips and background from the original and overlayed them on the adjusted copy. I did some additional tweaking but it was minor.

Xara's bitmap effects tools can be useful. Try them - they don't bite!

The attached plug-in may be useful to adjust the colour balance of bitmaps. You can add or subtract red, green & blue, which is the same as subtracting or adding cyan, magenta & yellow respectively. The controls are intended to be intensity neutral, however there is a separate lightness control if necessary.

. . . is there a way to zoom out/in or move around while using your tinter plug-in? On my system at least, it always displays a preview of a fixed size located at the upper left corner of my bitmap. I tried tinter on a large bitmap where the critical area for color correction was not within the preview area. Other than that, tinter performed exactly what I expected of it. Thank you.
