Perhaps this, too, is appropriate for Halloween. The shafts of light were done entirely in XARA.

Very nice Gary. The Xara rays mesh very nicely with the image, and probably alot faster than volumtric lighting would have been.
I like the concept, just fail to see the third dimension jump out at me regarding said lighting... sorry Gare, IMHO the lighting is too 2D (too flat and edges too sharp) to fit with the rest of the scene... good idea though, perhaps a bit of tweeking would fix this
Mark made a 3D text tutorial for Xara user's and thinking about it, maybe some of that fx could be incorped into the lighting here to give it a tad of depth...
Gidget---
I guess it's a failing of the overall piece. I see what you mean about the lights. Perhaps Randy is right and I should just fool with volumetric lighting instead of draing it in XARA.
Back to that drawing board!

I like it Gary. Maybe a little feathering of the light rays would help.

Yea, I think Soquili has the right idea here...
Gare, the overall piece is just fine indeed, infact it's a terrific concept... I think I would play around with the 2D lighting again
afterall, anything that can be done in 3D can also be done in 2D eh...
Thats very cool Gare
Use PS to make light beams, foreground to trans and back them up against each other to make a light beam, thats what I do sometimes.
