Xara X and CJK (Chinese, Japanese, Korean)

Well, I asked Xara whether Xara X supports CJK or multibyte languages in general and the reply was "no".

But that's not true, at least if you have Win XP Professional. You just have to change the language controlpanel as follows.

This should work for other multibyte languages, too.

I have seen some threads on Problems with Arabic for example.

This is great news you are reporting. I hope Xara Ltd. will see it. I'm sure it will interest them. They should investigate further and perhaps add a notice about it to their website. There are many people around the world unable to make effective use of Xara due to the lack of support for multibyte non-unicode languages. Perhaps with WinXP Pro there is an expanding market for Xara.

I spent about three weeks in Korea on business a few years ago. I'd love to go back. I found the people so full of life and the country so beautiful. I've told my seven year old son I will take him some day. I would love to go with him and my father (who fought in the Korean war and shares an affection for your country).

Yes, I'm really glad I found this forum and Xara X. This place is somehow different from other boards, ppl really try to help each other.

The lack of multibyte support is certainly one reason why Xara is not so well known in certain regions, just have a look at the map with all the Xara users ...

BTW, the text just means "Korea", the 1st line with the Korean Alphabet (Hangul), the 2nd line with Chinese Characters. Korea is a nice place to be, I came here 3 years ago.

Great! Are you using the English or the Japanese version of Win 2k?

There's also a multilingual version of Win 2k available where you can choose different language settings.

Where are you in Tokyo? I've been living in Shinjuku and Ikuta (near Kawasaki-shi) a few years ago.

First, I was very impressed this topic.. ^^

I'm Korean User.

No problem occured when I type text korean fonts.
I think xara supports korean language 99percent very well.
but, The rest of 1% is a keyboard "right" cursor key error.... -_-

Whenever I click on 'right' cursor-key on keyboard, Show Grid (keyboard shortcut : #) menu displayed (Toggle).
It's very annoying when I move objects (or node) using keyboard.
Other arrow key (up,down,left) have no problem.


OS: Hangul Windows 2000 Pro. (Win98, WinXP have same problem)

I tried everything (for example, Keyboard IME setting), but work in vain.
