    this technique is something I implement to combine two stainless steel parts without welding, soldering, glueing etc at all:

    When I developed my tea lights (maybe you remember my post here several months ago), the important point was to insert a cross beam into a tube without any noticable welding to hold the candle.

    The solution is simple: we increased the tolerance by heating up the tube to 800° C or 1472° F. With this heat applied the tube extends a bit, that means the size increases for a fraction of a mm, leaving enough space to insert the cross beam into the desired position. On cooling down the tube shrinks and the cross beam is 'pressed' into its position.

    Pretty simple, no big deal. The obvious advantage: no visible signs of welding on the surface, so the surface can be brushed, glass blasted or polished.
