Wow! Thanks for sharing this! Am downloading so I can see if my pet peeves in priting bitmaps have finally been fixed. Got bit by those again today as I'm putting together some quick thank-you card for the volunteers in our user group.

Have always thought this was an easy, fast project for these kinds of things that looks greate with today's craft tools. What I do in Xara is insert the person's photo in a rounded rectangle as a bitmap Fill, then apply some kind of brush effect around the edge. Add in other elements like text, logos, whatever to make a nice composition. I don't get too fancy with the edging, as the entire thing will be trimmed out using scissors and pasted onto a card front.

It's like coming home!!!!!!!

Such a happy bunny. So pleased that Xara has been updated - I've just ordered my update. It's the only program that keeps me using a Windows machine - I mostly use a Mac.

Been importing some images I've created in Expression 3 into the new Xara and got re-excited by what Xara can do.

quote:
Originally posted by eky:
I am on Windows XP Professional. When I tried the start, run, http://www.xara.com, I get the message, "Windows cannot find 'www.xara.com.' Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again. To search for a file, click the Start button, and the click Search."

I am pretty sure the problem can be solved as follows (which was pulled from a newsgroup posting, and posted here in case anyone else needs the help too):

Open Windows Explorer.
Go to Tools | Folder Options | File Types.
Scroll down to URL:HyperText Transfer Protocol and select it. (This item is not far down the list, and appears with "None" in the first column)
Click Edit or Advanced, depending on your Windows version.
Select 'open'.
Click Edit.

"Application used to perform this action" should read:
"C:PROGRAM FILESINTERNET EXPLORERiexplore.exe" -nohome
(Check the path to iexplore.exe to make sure that is correct and use the double quotes.)
DDE should be checked and in the boxes below it you should have:
#1: "%1",,-1,0,,,,
#2: IExplore
#3: (blank)
#4: WWW_OpenURL

URL:HyperText Transfer Protocol with Privacy should be the same.

Sometimes it is necessary to uncheck Use DDE.

If that doesn't fix it, go to Start | Run and type
regsvr32 urlmon.dll

(this information obtained from: this Google Search result)

Actually when I click on Xara Home or Purchase I am taken to the old page that sells the older version. I think before the FINAL release this needs to be altered Charles!! http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/smile.gif

AlexL:

Thank you so much! Your instructions fixed my problem with the "buy" and other web links. Now I can take advantage of this great preview deal http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/smile.gif.

eky: Great. Glad to hear that fixed it.

RAMWolff: The links from the Help menu will take you to the "real" Xara web pages. When the product goes live/gets released to the rest of the world, the real website will be updated with the new product pages, as can be seen when you click "buy Xara X now" on the program start-up splash screen. Please note that the link on the closing splash-screen will also take you to the "real" Xara web pages.

Therefore, should you wish to purchase by clicking a link in the program, the only place this should be done (before full product release) is on the startup splash screen.

I just upgraded and had no problems at all, once I READ the instructions. Pretty darned reasonable upgrade price, at least until June, although MOST of the program appears unchanged, just tweaked, thankfully. It is STILL the best darned vector-based drawing app on the market, bar none, and didn't need an entire re-vamp!

Thank you again, Charles! http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif

Anyone else having trouble with the help file? I keep getting this HTML Help Author error whenever I open help:

"The window name "mainwin" passed to HH_GET_WIN_TYPE has not been specified."
