transparency problem

I've been using xara x for atleast a year now. I know how to make a transparent .gif file so that's not the problem.

My export transparency tool no longer works correctly. I don't know if there is a global setting or something. I can't find it if there is. White is the only color that will work as a transparency.

Any ideas?

You are selecting the little wine glass icon when you export?

And you do not have a solid colored rectangle selected behind the object you are exporting?
