Got new computer

I picked up my new computer on Wednesday and have been wrestling with the setup. The worse is trying to get the old programs transferred or reinstalled.

The biggest problem is the Password Pal. It just doesn't transfer the old info to the new computer. So I have to re-enter about 75 descriptions, user name and passwords. yuck.

But I did get Xara X reinstall on the new 'puter. It turned out to be one of the easier programs to re-establish.

And, I've got DSL installed so I'm really cooking with gas now. I got the Pentium 4, with 2.4 GHz and 256 RAM, that along with the DSL and its zoom, zoom zoom.

Of course, the phone company screwed up switching my service to DSL and I didn't have a phone/computer for 2 days. http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/mad.gif You know any time they get involved something is going to get fouled up.

Oh, I forgot to tell you. I meet with a graphic designer/artist yesterday. It turns out the we attended the same ELEMENTARY school.

I asked at Kinko's when I was there getting something printed if they knew of any GD/GA and they gave me his name. (Hint, if you're looking for a referal source try Kinko's). We had a real good meeting and he is going to put together an estimate of different items then get back with me.

That is great 'Scout'..I pick up my new computer Tuesday!
A Pentiom 4 2.2GHz 512 MB memory Geforce2MX 64Mb graphics accelerator Windows XP Home.
Now tuesday I have to re-install my software...(fun-fun-fun)
I need an answer from the group..Xp doesn't come with 'Personal Web Server' can you instal the Windows95/98 PWS with Xp?
I need the server for playing with web pages.

I don't know how to answer. Its not a Dell or Compaq, if that's what you mean. I had it built to specifications at a great computer shop called Prime Computers.

Oh, forgot to say that I went with MS Windows XP and MS Office XP Home Edition.

Purchased QuickBooks and Norton Internet Security last night.

I'll try again but the feature that was supposed to allow for upgrade/transfer hasn't worked yet. I've tried 3 different times. I'll have to think of a new approach.

There wasn't any contact info available either so I can't ask them the question.

How fun! I'm upgrading from a Pentium 2 56kRAM 56K dialup modum that never hit 5K transfer rate. It's 4 yrs. old. It still works OK but I was getting real frustrated with response times and not having USB ports. (I got 6 of those puppies now LOL)

I got the Windows XP Home and MX Office XP also.

I've almost finished (I hope) with all the transfers and reinstalls except for Password Pal.

Even go a new keyboard. Trying the "natural" style. It is easier... I think.

I'm pretty sure the answer is no! But here are a couple of links relating to XP Home Edition (which appears to be what you're talking about) I found through Google that you might want to check out (note that I've only given them the most cursory glance and can't vouch for their quality):

If I was you, I'd go with Apache. I'm running Apache 1.3.27 on Windows 2000 Pro for web development and it's really not difficult to install and configure. I'd also take a look at http://nagoya.apache.org/mirror/http...s/win32/#xpbug but, given the choice, I'd stick with 1.3.27 for the moment rather than try Apache 2.0, which is still pretty new.
