    Hi all,

Many of you know me from the Xara X forums. I do a little website of my own called RAMWolffsWorld.com, I like it and I think I'm slowly outgrowing it. I currently belong to Earthlink. I love their service and have been a loyal customer for years now but their upgrade plan for enlarging ones webspace is really out of the ball park. I currently have what they call a "Starter Site" at $19.95 a month. 200 Mb's is all you get. The usual Control Panel software with all the usual log on, maintenance tools and other stuff, pretty good customer and technical support but if you want more web space it's a WHOPPING $4.95 per 5Mb's of web space. http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/eek.gif That's just nutso!! http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/mad.gif So today I am researching other Webhosting companies.

What I am looking for is a RELIABLE, STABLE and ESTABLISHED company that's not going to fold a year from now. I know Earthlink is all that but the prices are just rediculously high for what they offer and for what's out there.

So in my research I found Lunarpages.com and I was wondering if any of you good folks use their services and what you think of it. If you have any other webhosting solutions you would like me to look at then please post the link and give me a synopsis of what you think of their service and why I should consider it.

I was also thinking "How the hell am I going to transfer all this info from one webhosting service to another??". Any ideas there?? I've got over 100 Mb's worth of data on Earthlinks server and would really love it if there was a simple solution. Like could I use my FTP client (WS-FTP95LE) to some how transfer is from one server to another?? Probably not but I thought I'd ask! http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/smile.gif

    Thanks much!! http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/smile.gif

    Richard,

I have been using aplushosting.com for my ristoklint.com site (Since 2001), and they have been rock solid. The're tech support is really, really quick at getting back to you... (Or have been at least... I haven't had a need for them in a long time.)

They're Basic I package (for US $9.95) includes:
    - 20GBs of data transfer
    - 500MBs of space
    - 50 email addresses
    - FrontPage Extensions
    - Domain for $14.95
    - Web Email and Control Panel
    - Up to 2 months FREE*

You can read the full details on their website - it's quite extensive. Do note that MySQL and PHP only comes with the "higher-end" accounts (still cheap...)

They're control panel is the best! And their stats are super. I can have you look at mine... I'll can even give you my FRP password so you can check upload speeds.

Here is the most important tip you will ever receive - NEVER, EVER register your domain name through your hosting company - if you ever decide to move on, they will/could make it very painfull for you! Spend the extra buck with a real domain reg company for the piece of mind, knowing that you really have full controll over it.

Recomending a hosting company is always difficult - because when you do... Ah! Well...

These guys are "slightly" bigger than blackhills.com - They deliver 49 terabytes of data per month!... http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif

WHAT?? You haven't even looked at my site after all these long months of bantering back and forth?? For shame John, for shame!!! http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif

I KNEW you would find me over here!! http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif

To be honest I really don't know where to look in the Control Center for how much bandwidth I am using per month. If you have any ideas what I should look for I will report back here. My site is pretty straight forward. Just HTML with some style sheets is all.

Lunarpages is offering for $7.95 a month 800 Mb's web space and 40 Gb's of bandwidth per month. They have forums and pretty good customer support. $30.00 set up fee or no set up if you sign on for a year. Toll free support and their Control Panel is chocked full of tools. They support SQL Database, Front Page extentions, Dreamweaver Compatible, POP3, SMTP and IMAP, Unlimited EMail Accounts and Forwarding, Web Mail, PHP, Python and Perl, ASP, JSP and Servlets available, Add-On Domains available, 3 Parked Domains and 15 Sub Domains allowed with this package. FTP account and SSI - Server Side Inludes, Online User Statistice and they use High-End Servers (We use Dellâ„¢ PowerEdge 2650 servers. Equipped with dual Xeon 2.8Ghz processors and 4GB memory to ensure maximum performance for our customers.)

So I think I may be going with them after all. I was just hoping someone here at TG was using their services.

I will take a lookie see at blackhill.com thouugh. I appreciate you taking the time to help me out! http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/smile.gif

    Richard,

Do check for user reviews on lunarpages.com... before signing up with them. You can also search on Google for the classic hostingcompanyname sucks and hostingcompanyname suck... http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif It's not a "tell-all" but it might give you some ideas...

Here's one I found on lunarpages:

Well that was a damned scary little page!! http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/eek.gif but it was about the only one I found on the company. I did however find alot of other kind of sucking in the google search!! http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif Actually that was kinda scary too and I'm pretty kinky myself!! http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif

I trust your judgement and the words from the man that put that page up "if it's too good to be true it probably is"! Oh well!! http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/frown.gif Maybe they will get it together and improve that. I'm tempted to post that link on the forums and see how long it takes for it to get taken down but then again they do have my email address and I don't want any more viruses sent to me and you never know how aweful folks can be, we all have our dark sides and some of those dark sides are down right evil!! http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/eek.gif http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/tongue.gif http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/eek.gif

Ah, no, the site is not big at all. There are other files and what not I store there. I actually deleated some older ones (like the old DrawPlus Trial which has been released and patched 7 times so far, so I think it's safe to say the trial is invalid at this point http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif ) and ended up freeing up around 50 Mb's more. So I'm safe again for a while. I was just pissed that Earthlink charges so much for a little more space. $4.95 for 5 meesily Mb's more is just a rip off!! So I guess I will be considering the A+ Hosting gig when time frees up again.

Thanks for all your help and suggestions! http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/smile.gif

No, I am sharing and many of the files are one's that I have linked all over the web. From art works to avatars. There are zips files as well that I share with goodies for other programs as well as Xara X! http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif

No, I need the space and I want the space, I don't like being stressed out when my space limit gets close to being full up!!

I do have a removable drive & a DVD burner as well as a CDRW too!! I'm all set with backup's, this is a whole different cookie I'm talking about!

I was just about to buy Netobjectsfusion 7,5 when I discovered 1 and 1 who offer the software free of charge as part of their business web hosting package. The service is excellent and superb value for money.
    Their URL is
