Default Newbie-question regarding, what I would assume is, image bleeding

    Hey everyone!

I just recently began using Xara P&GD for some hobby movie-making.

Currently I'm working on recreation of a zoomed in scope (Widowmaker from Overwatch) and have run into some trouble.

The image and page size has been set to 1920x1080p, however as you can see in the attached rendering, there's a "bleed" from both the top and bottom portion of the image.

I've tried simply cutting the portion that's "bleeding out", but there's still some shadow overflowing out of bonds.

Anyone care to share some tips on how to limit the shape/shadow to stay within the black background?

    Many thanks in advance!

    /B

    Welcome to TalkGraphics

Did you add a "Glow Shadow"?

Thanks for the tip, kalm! Tried it, but it seems to jerk with the glow shadow-effect I used to get the outmost bright-red & black ring within the occular.

If I try to add a new shadow effect after clipping, it adds the shadow to the supposed background as well.

    Thanks, gwpriester!

Aye, I did add one. Seems to be part of the problem, at least when I try to outright cut the overflowing parts away.

A workaround could be to do away with the shadow using the standard shadow tool and create your own: make your shadow shape, position it, feather it, and apply a transparency.

Trying Boy's suggesting, bottom shape has 50% circular transparency and a Profile of (-0.78, -0.48) applied:

If you have an object with a shadow, such as the green image with the red glow shadow, click on the object with the Shadow Tool then click on No Shadow option on the Infobar.

You can also convert the shadow group to editable shapes (Arrange > Convert to Editable Shapes). Now you can ungroup the object from its shadow.

Shows like many effects in Xara are "Live Effects." This means you can come back tomorrow or any time in the future and modify or remove the effect.

When you convert to editable shapes, you turn off the live function and so things like the glow getting added to the clipped shape will no longer happen.

A tremendous amounts of thanks, GW! Converting the Shadow Group to Editable Shapes worked like a charm.

Thanks to everyone else too! I will surely be back with more questions as you've shown this to be one helpful community.

    Happy new year!
