Default Merging Fonts, Creating Rough Edges, Adding Patterns

This may be outside of what Xara can do and is something for Photoshop. However, I'm hoping you experts out there can at least give me some guidance which way to go to get the effect we need, and if it *it* something that can be created in Xara.

Attached is a Sherlock Holmes logo. The font is, I believe, called Cloister, aka. Old London. However, the font in this version seems thicker, and I haven't been able to match it. So perhaps it was made thicker in the image editing program?

Lastly, I'm curious how the fonts were merged to make one image that could accommodate the pattern that was applied. Also, how the edges were made "rough" that way.

    Any help greatly appreciated!

    Using Xara Pro X.

Exactly: Contour, fill with grungy bitmap, maybe add some overlay textures, stroke with a rough edged brush.

    A perfectly cromulent solution.

Thanks, Egg. Very interesting, I liked the rough brush and the newsprint fill.
