How to avoid edge aliasing with a distorted image?

What am I missing?

I don't think using an envelope for this will work.

What I would do (have done in the past for this type of thing) is to scale the desired replacement image down to fit one side of where it needs to go. Then judiciously use skew to fit the top or bottom. It won't fit both.

Then make a copy of the background image. Clip the relevant portion...the top or bottom of the phone in this case...whichever won't fit the replacement image. Make a bitmap copy of that, then outline it and clip it. Move it into place changing the stacking order as needed.

For this I would also create an outline around the replacement screen with an appropriate line weight and lightly feather it. You may also find you need to create another shape in the appropriate stacking order to hide artifacts.

As an alternative you can use the perspective mould but you require a large original image (which you have)
Use the default perspective envelope to size as required. It looks crap!
Select / Arrange / Create Bitmap Copy
Set the dpi to 300 or even 600.
Move over the target photo.
Select both & create a 96dpi image.

I tried a few ways myself and seemed to stumble on the trick being to distort first and then create a bitmap copy as the way ahead.

The one that now seems the most logical is to use the 3D tool with no extrude depth.

Harder to adjust but no jaggies.

The only Envelope you can use with a bitmap is Perspective and the edges are often not very smooth.
