if you mean the 'secure boot violation' error appearing after a recent windows update, it's actually an asus problem because their boards do not disable secure boot for windows 7 by default, which they should, because windows 7 does not support it - you can usually sort it out in bios, eg: http://www.asus.com/support/FAQ/1016356/

I doubt widows home will ever be a [forced] subscription OS; less sure on windows pro, though if anything it would be windows enterprise that went that way I would have thought
as others have said, windows 10 is a much better OS in terms of stability/performance/etc
if you are worried about privacy then, unless you are already a linux wizz-kid, the things you need to do to protect privacy in win10, even to the extent of shutting off some services, are likely easier for you to manage than learning how to use linux properly - if you are content just to use linux 'straight out of the box' fair enough... but I'm betting you might find that restrictive....
