    I rarely use 'realistic' here but that is damn good rik -the metallic look of the needle and the texture of the thread are impressive, well done

    I'll take the credit for the needle.

    And I did set about doing the thread as completely vector.
    However, I decided to look at the brushes included with Xara. Found one that (when it's that small) looked very realistic.
    Broke the thread where it goes under the needle and... well, you can see the result.

    As an exercise, I thought I would create my own brush for the thread.
    Turned out not too bad.
