Earlier I tried to upload a small screenshot (a png at about 25KB) and it wouldn't upload

Yes, it is definitely broken.
I'm not seeing an configuration changes in the forum software or error messages coming from the forum software. So I've asked a Xara Server Admin to look into it-- it could be a hardware or server permission error of some kind.
Hopefully he will be able to track down the problem and fix it soon. It is start of business day in England so that is working in our favor.
