Text tool fractions

Hi,

With the text tool, if I type 1/2 it changes into a smaller and better representation of a half.

The same seems to be true for other even denominators but not for odd.

e.g 1/3 doesn't change.

Even denominators > 8 e.g. 1/16 don't change.

Do I have any control over this process ?

I haven't found anything in the help but maybe I'm not looking in the right place.

I'm not sure but have you tried this with different fonts? I'll see if someone from Xara can comment on this.

Text tool > click the "ABC" button and then Auto Correct options

edit: obviously the font must support the character as well. Go to Start > type "character map", press enter to see what characters belong in what font, then select it, copy and paste into the autocorrect options to insert

I now see its a font thing, I thought it might be some fancy processing.

Didn't know about the windows START MENU> character map.

You also have the sanction of pressing Undo (Ctrl+Z) after the characters are replaced, just in case you really did want 1/2 and not ½.

Well, it is also an Xara application thing. Fonts like Arial have the OpenType code for what are called stacking fractions which, when the fea is turned on will compose fractions of all numbers. Unfortunately, Xara applications are not opentype aware.

Xara may implement these in the future !

There are a whole lot of OT features possible. None of which are usable in Xara applications at this point in time. But we do live in hope that one day Xara gets their products into the 21st century...
