    Default Pricing Question

Hi all, I'm new here so should really say hello at this point, so - hello, from Spain! ... Serious question; I am looking at upgrading my older programs, and I noticed that Xara Designer Pro is more expensive than the sum of all its parts ... yet I can's see a plain reason for that. So is it better for me to buy the web designer, graphics prog and DTP prog separately, or is there a magical binding in the Designer Pro that makes it worth the extra? Thanks for any insights!

    Welcome to TalkGraphics screencraft.
You have a comprehensive graphics and publishing background. Do you just use Xara Web Designer MX Premium, Xara 3D 5 and MenuMaker?

There is an special offer to Xara 3D 7 that ends today: http://www.xara.com/us/products/xara3d/.
It is cheaper, I think, than an upgrade.
You still need this although Designer Pro covers some 3D capability.

You probably won't need MenuMaker unless you are supporting old sites.
I don't think there is an upgrade.

You'll have to make you own decision but recent debate seems to agree that Designer Pro in one program is is most sensible.
Technically, the other probably do not have a 64-bit version (do check) and are not multi-processor capable.

    Look at http://www.xara.com/us/specialoffers/.
It might be chepaer to buy Web Designer 10 Premium today and choose to upgrade that or cross to Pro.
That alone might balance the price difference in favour of Pro and you get two applications.

Designer Pro X11 is the top of the line product and contains all the features from Web Designer Premium 11, Photo & Graphic Designer 11, and Page & Layout Designer 11.

Hi Acorn and gwpiester - thanks for the replies; perhaps I should be clearer - I know that Designer Pro X11 contains those three programs, but buying them separately amounts to about £60 cheaper than buying the single combination. So what I am wondering is, what is the ADVANTAGE of buying Designer Pro X11, over buying them separately, please?

Thank you for the headsup on the specials, too, Acorn! Advantage taken ...

If print work is important, do review the comparison carefully. The way it's laid out is a pita, but there are important differences.

Designer Pro includes a few features that the others don't have like live copies, and support for multiple processors. And Designer pro has features like 64 bit version and customizable key board short cuts that only some of the other programs have. for example there are a lot of DTP features that Designer pro and Page and Layout designer have that the others don't have, but there are lots of features that all have too.

It is far easier to have everything in one program easily at your fingertips and that convenience is a part of what you are paying for.

    Welcome to TG screencaft.

Xara Designer Pro is more expensive than the sum of all its parts ... yet I can't see a plain reason for that.
Best way to explain is to look at the following:

    http://www.xara.com/uk/designer-pro/compare/

Do you really want to change between Xara programs just to ensure you save a few pounds? Upgrading from your current software will cost £149 but to ensure you had all the features of Designer Pro 11. You'd need the other three products costing £170, and swapping files between these titles would involve features being dropped that aren't supported within that software, plus the three features that the other titles don't support

EDIT: Great minds think alike. Cross posting here.
