Xara Designer Pro 8 freezes

Since a couple of days Xara freezes when performing any kind of action.
I tried restarting Xara after closing all open files and restarting the computer but it still happens. I can't work this way, every action takes forever.
Has anybody an idea what this could be and most important how to solve this?

Update: Just installed Xara Designer Pro 11 and it does the same. Probably the problem is related to my laptop. Still any suggestions are welcome.

i'd suspect ram initially. possibly, tho unlikely, malware issue.

if it runs slow starting a project fresh and without any other project loaded you might wanna take a look through >THIS XARA THREAD <because some of the responses, i believe, pertain to your situation too.

It is the file I'm working on that causes the problem. I opened another file and that has no issues.
The file has a number of brushes, maybe that's the problem. It is over 7,5 MB, much larger than other files.

One thing to try

close down designer pro and right click the desktop icon and select run as administrator. Sometimes running the program once as administrator can help. It may not work but it's worth a try.

I think the brushes are the problem. I replaced them to normal lines and it is a lot better now.
