this may be a bit related... I am a new user of Xara and for the most part very happy with it. I did find that that the settings can get screwed up by just saving it under a profile name. I saved it and then found that the sub folder was now the text in the ftp address. I had to cut n paste it back in order to make it work. I am publishing to my own ISP and could not use the sub folder arrangement that the ISP supplied but had to use a general FTP address because of the xara issues for the parameters.

I upgraded from DP10 to Designer Pro 11 and did the same thing you did - loaded an existing site in, edited it and then uploaded.
Windows 10 was the problem for me. I finally found a thread that stated you need to upgrade your network drivers to the most current version (search the web) and that seemed to fix the problem for me.
Before I updated my net drivers in the device manager, I was having incredible problems with the web, wireless and FTPing from anything.
This assumes you are in Windows 10 now. What OS are you using?
