Just a random thought Mikey. I was just wondering. I really think the programers take that into consideration when they add new features. But, no matter how careful they are I think some bloat is inevitable, after-all new features are bound to take up more resources and inevitability slow down the program loading. The more new features the longer it will take to load. I could be wrong but that's how I see it, but then I am a numb-node and don't know much about programing.

Never give up. You will never fail, but you may find a lot of ways that don't work.

Version 11 takes slightly longer to start up than Version 10 because it loads and prepares the new art brushes that you see in the Line Gallery. They contain some moderately large bitmaps.

There are ways to work around this if it's a big problem - but at the cost of not having those brushes available to you.

Brush loading speed should improve in the next patch.

80-90 seconds! There has to be a problem somewhere for it to take that long. For reference, mine starts in around 10 seconds, compared to 8 for Photoshop and about 12 for After Effects (both CS6). But then Autodesk Combustion, which 5 years after being EOL'd is still my all-time favourite piece of software, starts in under 3 seconds. My music sequencer, Orion, starts in even less time, around 2 seconds. It also has a nifty feature - it will usually load the last project on start up, unless you hold down SHIFT while it starts, in which case you get an empty project.

One thing I have noticed with Xara, though, is that it often takes several seconds to show the splash screen. Until I worked this out, I used to regularly click the shortcut multiple times and end up with multiple instances open. It would be nice if the splash screen displayed a lot quicker.

I've noticed the same delays in page refresh as the others mentioned here. But I really hit the wall when I embedded a Youtube video object. At first I thought it was trying to render the entire video, so I changed the View Quality setting to Outlines. That didn't help.

We're talking AT LEAST a two minute wait on refresh. That means each edit costs me two minutes of downtime where all I can do is sit and watch my cursor roll around.

I'm working on a perfectly capable machine, running the 64bit version of Xara Web Designer 11 Premium. I wonder, is there someplace in the application where I can allocate more memory to tasks so I can speed things up? This is really frustrating.

when I embedded a Youtube video object
This shouldn't take any time to load, shouldn't cause a delay whatsoever.

I don't embed YouTube files so this is a guess. This is a widget and therefore ends up as a shape with a Placeholder. Try unticking "Re-generate placeholder image automatically".

My DPX11 wasn't doing this at first.

But, now, the welcome screen (attached) takes ages to load.

Please don't tell me that I can stop the screen from displaying.
The whole point is that it didn't used to take ages, but, now it does.

I thought the same thing, Acorn, but it's unticked by default. As a last resort I plugged in a couple of thumb drives and set them as dedicated Readyboost memory. The effect was minimal.

Full disclosure, I am running Windows 10, which may or may not be the source of the problem. I'm not experiencing lag in any of my other (non-Xara) applications.

TIA, Phil for the next rev!

I need the brushes, but I also don't need any more birthday candles.

    Grumble, snore...
