Can you show us an example or post your Xara document file?

Yes, we' need to see the file you're working on, as I don't get imperceptible lines in my gradiants - I don't know why you would.

One can get noticeable banding in XDP, AI, CD, DP, etc., if there are enough steps between the start/end stops of a gradient. Often this is a display issue, but can carry over to say exporting an image format. High-resolution print devices usually don't have a problem printing them without noticeable banding, many digital printers do.

It all just depends on the colors and steps created by the software, as well as how the gradient hits a PDF (Smooth Shade or not). On can often add a center stop (or more) and introduce a tad of color and get better results too. Depending on the gradient, I may well make it in a bitmap editor, add noise and or grain and export for use in XDP, CD or AI.
