I began sorting my copies of installed fonts by foundry, mostly because as a font addict, I know a font by its foundry a lot of times quicker than by name. So when I need to install a specific font, chances are it's in a Stu's Font Diner folder if it's Retro, or Linotype if it's a day to day staple such as Optima. Or at least that's the distribution foundry I know it best by.
So I made icons for folders of type foundries from which I own the most of my icons, and I'd like to share it with anyone who's interested in organizing typefaces this way:
I deliberately left out Bitstream because:
1. They make "lookalike fonts" for every major vendor on Earth, and
2. They were sold to Monotype last year.
If type foundries go the way other businesses go, in the future there will be only two font clearing houses: Monotype and Adobe.
My Best,
Gary
