I use the boolean functions all the time. Usually the workaround for me is to create the boolean combination, copy the created shape, the undo to go back to the original objects. Then I paste the shape from the clipboard.
Having it be non-destructive would significantly magnify my ability to change shapes.

the clip is in my view something like non-destructive intersect, so i was always expecting the rest of the non-destructive functions, and for boolean-add (subtract also) it would be verrrry cool not to need the copying steps and the "backup shapes" lying around somewhere, irritating
