Default Designer Pro X10 - installation problem

Thought I would give Designer Pro X10 a 30 day trial.
    Well, maybe not.

Part way through the installation, I get an error.
"Overlapped I/O operation is in progress."

I've restarted windows, and made sure no other programmes are running, but keep getting the same error.

    I'm running Windows 8.1 32bit in Parallels.

I've not had any problems with Designer Pro X9, Designer Pro X, and any other Xara products.

The aborted installation even gives me the chance to report the problem, by clicking on the button that says 'Send customer service inquiry...'
    But, that doesn't work either.
I get a message saying "Connection failed. "The server responded with the errorcode: 404"

Weird! I use P&GD 10, with no problems. I assume you are looking at the pro version. You might want to submit a ticket and see what Xara says. Or could just be a bad download.

Never give up. You will never fail, but you may find a lot of ways that don't work.

I was, maybe, hoping that a developer might see this thread and have an answer.
But, as you mention, I submitted a ticket and we'll see what the response is.

    Hi Rik,
I had this problem and Xara support suggested I remove this Windows update: KB2918614 . It worked for me. It's okay to re-install after.
    Hope this helps

    Thanks, Peter.
    That did the trick.

In case anyone else needs to do this, please look at the instructions HERE on how to remove installed windows updates.
It goes without saying, that you do this at your own risk.

Glad it worked. Apparently it's not just Xara this Windows update affects. A search on the update brings up quite a few issues.

Same error for me w/ Windows 7, 32 bit. Install problem solved with deletion of that dastardly Windows update: KB2918614. (don't forget to restart computer after uninstalling update) Once again this forum has saved me countless hours of pulling out hair. THANK YOU!!! How you figure these issues out is amazing!

With a lot of painful testing lol. Rolled back windows to a former date, and discovered that the changes was an update. Uninstalled update and it starts working. Have to admit its the first time I've come across a windows update causing this sort of problem, although they can interfere with the Designs Gallery sometimes as well for some reason.

    @Rob,

Three times in the past decade or so (I'm date-challenged), Microsoft has broken applications with changes to either fonts themselves or the sub-system. The previous one, a couple years ago, also mucked with Xara products (and one other application of mine iirc). Apple did the same a couple times in the past 5-6 years, too.

    Stuff happens.
