I don't think I'm thick...in fact I've got a certificate to prove it ( http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif) but I just can't get my head around fills and all their forms. I'm trying to do Garys TUT from June 2001 'The Bulb' and am having great difficulty with getting the fills correct. I've tried, believe me, but find it baffling. From page 16 (if you're using Adobe) up to page 18 how on earth do you change different colours and place them at different points along a line. Mores to the oint how do you get the points there in the first place ? Simple instructions suit me best http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/wink.gif. Please. http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/confused.gif http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/confused.gif

To add a point to the fill line, double click the line. A little square will appear. Drag a color to that square — the cursor shape will change subtly when you in the drop zone.

Alternately, you can just drag a color to a fresh spot on the fill line which combines the actions of creating the point and assigning the color.

To change the color of an existing point, including the end points, select the point and left-click the color bar.

    Hello Sammo,

Thanks for the help http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/smile.gif. That helps quite a bit and clears up most of my query except..

    Hi Egg,

I did already watch the movie that's why I feel a bit embarassed about still being in the dark. Sammo helped with his reply but I am still confused about how you move the fill arrows and, as in the bulb, have 5 different colours http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/redface.gif. But if I don't ask now I will remain forever ignorant...better to get it over with http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/wink.gif.

OK...I apologise for not reading Sammos reply properly or watching the movie properly - I said I needed a rest http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/redface.gif http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/redface.gif http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/redface.gif. Too many late nights etc. Mike S has also very kindly sent me a xar file and I have replied to him too so hopefully, when I recharge, I will get it http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/wink.gif.

You might also check out Workbook 31, Page 4 in the Xara Xone. It covers the basics of fills and how to edit them including how to had and edit colors on the fill path (the arrow), types of fills, and other cobweb-clearing stuff.

Thanks Gary...excellent http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/wink.gif. You see, it's the tortoise and the hare thing I suppose. I'm rushing to do as many things as possible and forgetting about the most important things, the foundations. Drawing is one thing, application another.
