You need to create a shape - rectangle or something in the color that you want and place it behind the graphic. The screen background color (whatever it is) has nothing to do with the graphics you create, only on how it appears on your screen. If you want a printable background color, you need it to place it there as a graphic - not rely on the background color of the screen. The default background on a print is always white, unless you place it different colored shape behind it. This is true for any graphics program - Adobe, Corel, Xara, every one.
If you drag and drop a color onto the screen, the page will print white. You need to use the method described by Mr. Gameprinter.

aside from the actual problem - the pedant in me says that the default background colour on print is usually the colour of the paper, unless you have a fancy printer that has white ink....
I tried this with a page color Steve and it still prints white. You need to tell your inner pedant to try it out.
