Oh, all those camels! Well, at least no one has done a pack of coffin nails yet.

Extruded lighter.

That's just awesome Stygg.

Never give up. You will never fail, but you may find a lot of ways that don't work.
Personally I like this thread because for me the extrude tool is something I mostly don't understand and rarely use.

I fon't know who posted this first, but it was a while ago, severeal years and it might have been Steve Ledger. In any event, thanks to whoever discovered this...you can exceed the maximum Roundness setting for an extrude up to 800 or more I think, and if you make a star shape and extrude it to say 100, and then round it to about 700 by typing the value in the box then hitting Enter (because the slider refuses to go over a certain value, then do a little actually drawing to enhance the extrude, looky what you got, and it isn't even Autumn here in the Northern Hemisphere!
Which leads me to wonder whether Xara will ever be able to get a lathe operation going, as Illustrator does. You know, revolving a half profile around a central axis to result in a vase, bottle or other round shape?
I'm attaching a vector version of this, done in Illustrator, and the only reason I'm doing so is because I think through talent, observation of how the blends are being done for light falloff, and ClipViewing areas, this same sort of 3D object can be drawn in Xara. Actually, I know it can because I've studied these AI file for about a decade and you can easily swap out complex gradients for all the blend steps.

Very good examples it became a really great thread
As unusual use of Extrude tool I like applying ClipView on extruded objects on a way, that later sometimes hard to recognize from which shape they came
Extrude_tool_Clipview.xar
I never thought of using the ClipView to hide areas and thus suggest a different shape!
Neat!
You know, you can also just draw in front of or behind and extruded bunch of shapes to get it closer to what you have in mind:
That gets me away from the fact that these object don't cast shadows upon themselves in any way.

Gary
There's an older thread here with a bunch of Extrude ideas:

Have fun!
I remember Soquili (Bill) called them "extroodles"

Thanks for the link, Fred, Ihad no idea it existed and there's some fun stuff there, especially your pliers and film reel.
Well, I guess it doesn't hurt to keep this thread going since the last entry in the other Extrude discussion is 6 years old.
And I really didn't intend for this to be a discussion! I posted an extrusion of a hard cover book, and members chimed in until we had a full-blown discussion here!
Hey, it's all good, right?
