    Isn't that for playing Chess?

    When you finish your move, you press your button to start the other player's timer. And vice versa.

    Yes exactly that is the answer

    Actually the left side player pressed the button so he completed his move, waiting for the right side one who is thinking. But his clock is 'hanging' because when the minute's hand reaches the number "12" the red flag drops and loses immediately.

    It is so used in Chess in which each player has a certain amount of time to complete all the moves of the game. Populars are the rapid chess tournaments when are just 25 minutes for each player (sometimes even only 10 or 5 minutes)
