Default Just a homage to Sir John Tenniel

John Tenniel is probably best remembered for his illustrations in Charles Dodgson's Alice in Wonderland series. But he was also a wry political cartoonist, as well, and I thought I'd try my hand at trying to capture some of the sketchiness of his characters, and add a little color in Xara to make them more dimensional in my own fashion (Tenniel had his, far superior). The life he brought to Dodgson's imaginary characters deserved a little updating in this case of idiotic sibling rivalry:

    Fantastic imagery, Gary.
Though I question the names of the characters?!

Okay, okay, Twiddle Dee and Twiddle Dum were bound at the waist so to speak (and they had large waists), yet the contrary thing about their fraternity was they disagreed on everything: black is white, right is wrong, real Orwellian fodder.

And I've seen SO many times people in the graphics field argue about the superiority of vector tech over pixel-based imaging.

And today, can one live without the other? You need pixel-based imagery for true photography, and you need vector drawings for logos and all text.

    My conclusions are:

1.) a bad relationship is still a relationship, and

2.) Tenneil was a bloody genius with his illustrations of the carpenter and the walrus, the Jabberwocky, and the Gryphon (which is a classic portrayal of the animal, I don't think any other illustrator has surpassed his), and historically, he was ideally suited to illuminate this pair of dumb and dumber kin.

An excellent homage I'd say! They certainly haven't "forgot their quarrel"

I think vector and pixel are perfect, Gary.

very nice Gary -well done on their contrariwiseness expressions

Tenniel was rather good at the cross-hatching and a genius.. and I am neither.. but I studied 'Alice' back in the day - so whilst I still have time, here's my homage - closer to the original [within my limits ]...

"I only wish I had such eyes," the king remarked in a fretful tone. "To be able to see Nobody! And at that distance too! Why, it's as much as I can do to see real people, by this light!"

    some they drew in vector:
