See with me the image imports at a fixed 500px height setting, I have made a change from a suggestion from xara users within the xara registry to increase import size but the image is still at 500px height no matter what size of image is imported.

more reason to try a PNG I would have thought [can't help with the 500px issue in WD, sorry]

the capture? shouldn't make the slightest difference then when it's reduced [given 100% zoom], but hey maybe it's a WD issue.... no problems with XDPX is all I can say, sorry again...

I'll qualify that - it will make a difference if it is reducing it in size [to meet a 500px limit] and reoptimising it to 96dpi at the new size, maybe

Installed Xareg and in that there is a setting for bitmaps and it auto resizes bitmaps to 500px, just need to change that. Another very good option given by Steve (athman) over on xara users is to bring the image into a blank photo page >file >New >Blank photo and copy and paste.

yes, but that's a width setting is it not... the one we came in on - unless WD has both width and hight ceilings- anyhow glad it's fixed

yep - applies to height too, just checked it out....
of course I have had this switched out since day one because 500px is a small bitmap to me, not a max.. remembered wrong in the detail...
