Default How do I limit the area effected by an object?

I am placing a .jpg object near text and other objects, and I want to create a link out of the .jpg. The problem is that the area of the object is much larger than the area of the image, therefore the clickable area of the .jpg covers other objects and text. How do I create a link that is limited to the area of the image? I hope this makes sense. I'm sure I'm not the first to run into this problem. Thanks for any help.

Draw out a rectangle to cover the image and make it 99% transparent, add the link to this rectangle

Another way is to cut down the size of the object to the size of the image. Either draw out the rectangle over the image, select both and press ctrl+3, or put the rectangle behind the image, select both and press Q
